How To Make A Homemade Smoothie King Acai Bowl
Ingredients And Why :
Acai : For this recipe, we’ll be utilizing freeze-dried acai powder, which is readily available at health food stores or can be purchased online. Alternatively, frozen acai berry packets can also be used, and you can locate them at your nearby grocery store like Target in the frozen fruits section.
Banana : For optimal taste and texture, it’s recommended to freeze bananas. They have a naturally high level of sweetness and creaminess, and they are also a great source of potassium.
Strawberries & blueberries : Thankfully, acai can be combined with almost any fruit, but it pairs exceptionally well with frozen berries. In my opinion, a blend of blueberries, strawberries, or blackberries would be the best choice.
Coconut Water : Certainly, it’s necessary to add some liquid to facilitate the blending process. I used coconut water, but you can choose to include any fruit juice that you prefer.
Recipe : (1 Servings )
- 1 tbsp açai powder( or 1 packet frozen Acai puree)
- 1 banana frozen
- A handful of strawberries (frozen)
- A handful of blueberries (frozen)
- 0,1l of coconut water ( or unsweetened almond milk)
Toppings :
- 1 tbsp granola
- 1/2 sliced banana
- 1 handful of diced Strawberries
- 1 handful of Blueberries
- 1 tbsp peanut butter drizzle (6 lines)
Method :
- Blend all ingredients until smooth !
- Once everything is combined and smooth, scoop your blended smoothie into a bowl and top with granola, banana slices, fresh fruit and an extra drizzle of peanut butter, if desired.

Are Acai Smoothie Bowls Healthy ?
It depends ! It is a bit tricky to answer with a simple “yes” or “no” . The acai berry itself is packed with antioxidants, fiber, and healthy fats, which can provide a variety of health benefits. On the other hand, commercial acai bowls often contain high amounts of added sugar, which can negate these benefits and even be detrimental to your health.
It’s important to be aware of the ingredients in the acai bowl you order at cafes or restaurants. Some commercial brands try to enhance the taste of the acai berry by using artificial syrups and sugar, which can result in a high sugar content.
Additionally, they might include sweetened soy or almond milk and fruit juice, which further increases the sugar levels. An average-sized acai bowl can contain between 21 to 62 grams of sugar per serving, which is a considerable amount.
To put things into perspective, the World Health Organization recommends that both adults and children should limit their sugar intake to no more than 10% of their total energy intake.
For a 1,800kcal diet, that’s around 45g of sugar. A single acai bowl can contain more sugar than this, which is why it’s crucial to be mindful of your overall sugar intake when consuming these bowls. Don’t let the seemingly healthy acai bowl fool you – it’s all about being aware and making conscious choices!
Furthermore, the toppings on acai bowls can add to their overall sugar content. While natural sugars from fruits like bananas, mango, and coconut are okay in moderation, adding more sweet toppings like honey and chocolate sprinkles can quickly add up and push the calorie count of an acai bowl dangerously high.
So, while acai bowls can be a healthy option when made with minimal added sugar and healthy toppings, they can also be a calorie and sugar bomb if consumed excessively. If you’re looking to maintain a healthy body weight or manage your sugar intake, it’s best to enjoy these bowls in moderation and be mindful of what you’re adding to them.
